Description

1985 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 380SL. Condition is "Used".
3.8L 8 cylinder with automatic transmission
A blast to drive. Awesome with the top down of course.
THIS CAR TURNS HEADS! People notice it.
COVID Relief!
I have had lots of notes and people stopping to inquire if it's for sale over the years.
Odometer reads 103,143 but it broke about 4 years ago when I pushed the trip reset button.
I estimate the mileage at about 105,000 to 106,000.
Car was purchased in Dec, 2004 with 96,692 miles on it.No long trips or commuting.
Just a 2nd car for pleasure and fun.
Starts and runs just fine.
Modified exhaust has a deep throaty sound, kind of like a motor boat.
Reason for selling : moving to back East to an apartment. It's been great for 16.5 years.
Purchased near Pittsburgh, PA.
Moved to California in 2016.
It had been always garaged in the winter until the move to California.
Never was exposed to winter driving as far as I am aware.
Records indicate it was purchased new in Hollywood, CA
Painted black at some point.
Original color was silver. .
LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL CHROME.
After market wheels and new soft top from the previous owner.
All tires were replaced in about 2013.  Excellent tread left.
I never replaced the brakes in 15 years as they had been replaced by the previous owner when I purchased it.
Fuel lines from gas tank to fuel pump, fuel accumulator. - 2019
Ignition control module - idle speed - 2018
Four new V belts were installed in 2018.
Fuel Accumulator - 2015
Spark plugs, spark plug wires, ignition coil. - 2015
Alternator - 2009Oil changed yearly, conventional, high mileage.
Battery has been replaced a few times. Dual timing chains on this model.
It was last smogged checked in California Feb 2020 and easily passed.HC, CO, and NO as measured values were all well below maximums.
Large dent & scratches on the hard top from a tree limb falling on it (happened when not on car).
I don’t' really care about the hard top so new owner can decide if worth fixing.
Air Conditioning stopped working about 10 years ago. It is a Freon-based system. It would cost a lot to repair or get converted as I believe it is Freon-based system. I never considered getting it fixed as my air conditioning is the convertible.
There is crack in the dashboard from sun/heat.
Key needs to be "jiggled" while in ignition running to get the fan to work.
Stereo - not that great of a sound. Blaupaunkt.  CD player.  Removable faceplate. I am not a fan of the "soft" electronic adjustment of the volume.  I wish I had upgraded the stereo in this when I first bought it.
Several of the chrome covers for the side of the seats need to be "fixed" to stay on.
Antennae doesn't go all the way down.
A small crack/slit in the clear vinyl portion of the soft top.
The windshield is not without a number of tiny nicks and such as it appears to be the original.  One small bullseye that was filled.
Windshield wipers are off the shelf versus metal replaceable OEM. I have the OEM if one wants to replace the blades.
The passenger sunshade push in holder needs to be replaced.
Only 1 soft top/hard top release tool.
The only thing my mechanic said that needed to be kept on eye on was a very minor leak from the read differential.   It's never become serious or an issue.
The air filter top and cylinder head covers have become a oxidized.
There are some swirls in the paint. The car has not been polished or waxed in many years.
It certainly could benefit from a good polish, buff, wax, etc.
Comes with 2 keys.
Soft car cover (not water proof) is included.
A winch with a hardtop harness to lift off and suspend the hard top (1 person hardtop removal & put on) from the roof is included.Spare tire is okay as far as I know but old (never used).
I have all the service records and history going back from previous owners.
I don't smoke.
I'll throw in THE CLUB for the steering wheel.
A records show odometer at:
103,143 miles on Feb 18, 2018
100,118 miles on May 06, 2011
96,682 miles in Dec, 2004 when purchased.
I paid ,500 for this car in 2005.
I LOVE THIS CAR. It's been a great ride.
I hope it goes to a wonderful person who will love and cherish this car.
